What this site knows about you.
Almost nothing, and this page says exactly what that means rather than asking you to take it on trust.
The short version
There is no account, no sign-up, no email capture and no analytics. Nothing you type into a calculator is sent to us, stored by us, or sold to anybody.
What is stored on your device
One thing. When you choose the day or night theme, that choice is saved in
your browser’s local storage under the key chachng-theme, so the
site does not forget it between visits. It holds one word. Clearing your
browser data removes it, and the site works normally without it.
There are no cookies. The site sets none and reads none.
Where your figures actually go
Your answers live in the address bar. That is the whole storage mechanism: the link is the saved calculation, which is why it restores every answer and works on somebody else’s machine.
This has a consequence worth stating plainly rather than burying. A web address is sent to the server that serves the page, and servers keep access logs. So the figures in a calculator link may appear in the hosting provider’s logs — the same way any URL you visit does.
The PDF statement is different, and deliberately so. Its inputs travel in
the part of the address after the #, which browsers never send to
a server at all. A statement is assembled entirely inside your browser.
What the server sees
Standard web request information: the address requested, the time, your IP address and your browser’s user-agent string. This is generated by the hosting platform rather than by us, and we do not combine it with anything else or use it to build a profile.
We do not run our own database and keep no copy of it. How long the host retains those logs is the host’s policy, not ours. How long it keeps them is set by its own plan, and that period is not published here yet.
The site is served from outside Australia and New Zealand
It runs on a hosting platform that serves the site from a global network. Pages are delivered from whichever of its locations is closest to the person asking for them, which means the location changes from visitor to visitor and over time — there is no single country to name, and naming one would be wrong for most readers.
What is constant is the part that matters: the request information above — your IP address, and the addresses you visit here — is handled on servers outside Australia and New Zealand. If that matters to you, it is worth knowing before you put figures into a calculator, which is why it is stated plainly rather than left to be inferred.
Getting at your information, or complaining about it
We hold no account and no profile, so in almost every case there is nothing of yours for us to show you or correct. If you believe otherwise, or want to ask what exists, write to baireecoal@gmail.com and you will get an answer.
If you are not satisfied with that answer, you can take it further. In Australia, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. In New Zealand, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Which privacy law applies
Australia’s Privacy Act 1988 exempts most businesses turning over $3 million or less a year, and this site is well under that. It is written to meet the Australian Privacy Principles anyway — the exemption is about obligation, not about whether you deserve to be told what happens to your information.
Third parties
None on the page. No advertising, no tracking pixels, no embedded widgets. Fonts and animation libraries are served from this site’s own origin rather than a content delivery network, so loading a page does not tell anyone else that you did.
Children
This is a tax and property calculator. It is not directed at children and collects nothing from anybody, of any age.
Changes, and asking us things
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions, corrections or a request about your information go to baireecoal@gmail.com.
